Isle Brewers and Isle Abbotts

Description:
This walk follows quiet country lanes and footpaths on the edge of the Somerset Levels.  Starting at Curry Mallet it visits Isle Brewers and Isle Abbotts.  Care should be taken on the lanes as they are not devoid of traffic.

Parking:
This walk starts from the Village Hall car park in Curry Mallet (TA3 6SY) (Grid Ref: ST327219). Please ensure there are no functions planned at the village hall before starting the walk.

Walk Route:
Turn left out of the car park and pass the Bell Inn and then at a junction within the village continue straight on following the signpost towards Fivehead and Langport.  After 500 metres at a junction continue straight on and stay with this lane for a further 1.2km.  Soon after passing Stowey Farm turn right at a junction (Grid Ref: ST344223).

After 150 metres on the lane, just after New House Farm, turn left on a track, Stillbrook Lane.  Follow this lane to reach a tarmac lane and continue heading east for 140 metres to reach a junction.  Take the lane signposted to Isle Brewers and Westport.  After 400 metres at a T-junction turn right still following signs to Isle Brewers and Westport.

After 1.5km on reaching a junction in Isle Brewers (Grid Ref: ST365212) turn right and follow this road through the village.  After 650 metres at a crossroads turn right towards Southey Farm.  Follow the path as it skirts farm buildings and then continues to cross Red Bridge before reaching the outskirts of Isle Abbotts.  At a junction of paths turn left into the hamlet (Grid Ref: ST356209).

On entering Isle Abbotts turn right at a junction to reach the village church. Now turn left into Church Lane and follow this through the village for 180 metres to a junction, turn right into Chapel Road.  After 100 metres turn left and follow a lane out of the village passing poultry houses to reach a junction (Grid Ref:346207).

Go straight across to join a footpath, after 450 metres at a fork in the path go left and continue on to Park Farm.   Follow a track past St James’ Church and then join a minor road heading into Curry Mallet.  At a junction by a postbox turn left into Lower Street.  After 650 metres at a crossroads besides the converted chapel go straight across into Redland Lane.  After 120 metres, just after passing the last house on the right, take a footpath on the right which heads north besides fields to reach a junction of paths by a pond (Grid Ref: ST325216).

Continue north on a footpath besides a field to reach a track (Grid Ref: ST325218), turn right and follow this track to reach a road in the village.  Turn left and pass the Post Office and then turn left to pass the Bell Inn and return to the starting point in the Village Hall Car Park.

Toilets:
There are no public toilets.
Toilets are available in the pub on this route during opening hours.
