A Walk Around Dottery and Allington Hill

Description:
This 6 mile (9.6km) circular walk from Bridport follows footpaths and quiet country lanes. Sections of this route follow minor roads, these are not devoid of traffic so care needs to be taken.

This walk starts from West Street Long Stay Car Park in Bridport (DT6 3TP) (Grid Ref: SY462928). Parking charges apply.

Walk Route:
From the car park head east for a few metres to join Tannery Road, turn left and walk to the junction of West Street.  Turn left and soon cross the road just before the White Lion pub and join the pavement on the opposite side, continue a short distance to reach a mini roundabout. Turn right and follow the pavement besides the B3162, Dottery Road, for 900 metres to reach the point where the pavement ends outside the last house leaving the town.  Turn right and follow the lane for 80 metres to reach a footpath on the left (Grid Ref: SY461938).

Follow this path as it heads north steadily heading uphill on the route of the Hardy Way.  At a fork in the path (Grid Ref: SY463944) keep right and continue on the Hardy Way to reach Middle Pymore Farm.  At a junction of paths besides farm buildings (Grid Ref: SY463948) turn left.  In 100 metres at a crossing of paths turn right and follow the path besides a field to reach Pymore Lane (Grid Ref: SY 462950). 

Turn left and follow the lane for 700 metres to reach a crossroads with the B3162.  Cross with care and join the lane opposite sign posted to Broadoak.  Follow this narrow country lane for 1.3km to reach Atrim Lane on the left (Grid Ref: SY445957).  Now follow Atrim Lane for 600 metres, the lane ends near a farm. Take a footpath on the left and then almost immediately take another footpath heading south across fields towards Ebb Plantation.  Follow the path through the trees to reach a junction with the Monarch’s Way (Grid Ref: SY443946) turn left.

The path descends gradual besides the plantation to reach a field and then continues downhill to reach a footbridge across the River Simene (Grid Ref: SY449947).  Stay with the Monarch’s Way to head through Bilshay Farm to join a track, Bilshay Lane and continue along this for 225 metres to reach a footpath on the right (Grid Ref: SY454948). Leave the lane and follow the footpath through arable fields to reach a junction of paths near Waddon Barn (Grid Ref: SY457946).

Take the footpath heading south that emerges onto Hospital Lane near the entrance to Bridport Community Hospital.  Cross the lane and join the footpath on the opposite side of the road heading onto the access land of Allington Hill.  Follow a footpath around the eastern side of the access land where the footpath leaves the access land (Grid Ref: SY460932) turn left and follow a path to reach the B3162 turn right  and from here retrace the route back to the starting point in West Street car park.

There are public toilets in Bridport.
