Guided Walk: 20th February 2025 – Droves, Downs and Chase Woods

Date:  Thursday 20th February 2025

Start Location:  This walk starts in Sixpenny Handley. Details will be sent with joining instructions.

Start Time: 10.00 (Start time is when the walk commences. Please arrive earlier to ensure you are ready for the start)

Walk description:  This 13 mile (21k) walk starts in Sixpenny Handley and goes through Chase Woods to reach the Ox Drove. We then descend to the outskirts of Tollard Royal before heading to Rushmore Park. From there the route goes back to Chase Woods to return to the start point.

This walk goes through attractive countryside, passes historic places of interest and has far reaching views.

Walk Level:  This is a moderate/challenging walk with approximately 1,250 feet of ascent during the route. 

How long will it take? This walk will take approximately 6 hours. During the walk we will stop for a picnic lunch (not provided).

Equipment: You will need suitable footwear and outdoor clothing (not denim jeans) and waterproofs.

You should also bring drinking water and lunch / snacks.

Group Size: Maximum 10 people (10 places remaining)

Toilets: There are no public toilets on this walk.

Refreshments: You will need to bring your own food and drink.

Are dogs allowed? Dogs are only allowed by prior agreement and must be kept on a lead throughout the walk. Please add details of your dog in the comments section of the booking form and Fred will contact you.

How much will it cost? £7.50 paid on the day by cash or card.

About Your Walk Leader:

Walking Moonraker walks are led by Fred. He is a qualified Mountain Training Association Lowland Leader with an Outdoor First Aid certificate and has appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance to lead lowland walks.  He has also achieved the National Navigation Award Scheme Gold Standard of navigation.
