Guided Walk: 19th September 2024 – Martin Down and Penbury Knoll

Date:  Thursday 19th September 2024

Start Location:  This walk starts from the car park on Martin Down Nature Reserve besides the A354 (SP5 5RH) (Grid Ref: SU036200) There are no parking fees.

Start Time: 11.30 (Start time is when the walk commences. Please arrive earlier to ensure you are ready for the start)

Walk description: This 8 mile (13k) circular walk goes through the stunning Martin Down Nature Reserve and visits Penbury Knoll it then descends into Pentridge before returning to the start point.

During the walk we will talk about the military history of Martin Down and share knowledge of the flora and fauna in the nature reserve.  On the route we will observe the bronze age Bokerly Dyke and the late prehistoric field systems on Pentridge Down.

Walk Level:  This is a moderate walk with some ascents and descents. 

How long will it take? This walk will take approximately 4 hours. During the walk we will stop for a picnic lunch (not provided).

Equipment: You will need suitable footwear and outdoor clothing (not denim jeans) and waterproofs.

You should also bring drinking water and lunch / snacks.

Refreshments: There are no shops, cafes or pubs on this walk.  You will need to bring you own food and drink.

About Your Walk Leader: Walking Moonraker walks are led by Fred. He is a qualified Mountain Training Association Lowland Leader with an Outdoor First Aid certificate and has appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance to lead lowland walks.  He has also achieved the National Navigation Award Scheme Gold Standard of navigation.
