Guided Walk: 17th January 2025 – Oare Hill and Wootton Rivers

Date:  Friday 17th January 2025

Start Location:  This walk starts in Pewsey. Details will be sent with joining instructions.

Start Time: 9.15 (Start time is when the walk commences. Please arrive earlier to ensure you are ready for the start)

Walk description:  This 12 mile (19k) circular walk passes through Oare before ascending Oare Hill. It then heads to Martinsell Hill before descending to the Kennet and Avon Canal at Wootton Rivers. After a section on the canal towpath we return to Pewsey.

The route passes through attractive countryside, historic places of interest and has far reaching views.

Walk Level:  This is a moderate/challenging walk with approximately 851 feet of ascent during the route. There is a very steep ascent to reach the top of Oare Hill.

How long will it take? This walk will take approximately 5 to 6 hours. During the walk we will stop for a picnic lunch (not provided).

Equipment: You will need suitable footwear and outdoor clothing (not denim jeans) and waterproofs.

You should also bring drinking water and lunch / snacks.

Group Size: Maximum 8 people (3 places remaining)

Toilets: There are public toilets in Pewsey at the start and end of the walk.

Refreshments: You will need to bring you own food and drink. There are a range of shops in Pewsey including a bakery.

Are dogs allowed? Dogs are only allowed by prior agreement and must be kept on a lead throughout the walk. Please add details of your dog in the comments section of the booking form and Fred will contact you.

How much will it cost? £7.50 paid in advance or cash on the day.

If you have not booked a place on this walk, completed the appropriate forms or arrive without suitable clothing/equipment you will not be able to join the walk.

About Your Walk Leader:

Walking Moonraker walks are led by Fred. He is a qualified Mountain Training Association Lowland Leader with an Outdoor First Aid certificate and has appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance to lead lowland walks.  He has also achieved the National Navigation Award Scheme Gold Standard of navigation.
