This website has been developed to share my passion for walking and being out in the countryside. Having been born in the small Wiltshire village where I still live I am a âMoonrakerâ, a term used for natives of the County.
This site provides details of some my walks across England, Wales and Scotland all with a link to Outdoor Active (where you can download a GPX file of each walk).
The site is designed to enable you to follow my walk, within each walk there is a link to my associated Two Dogs and an Awning website where the blog of the route will contain personal reflections, historical information, points of interest and many more pictures and a link to the Ordnance Survey website where a GPX file of the route can be down loaded. The Two Dogs and an Awning site has over 900 walks across England, Scotland and Wales.
Whilst I have sought to be as accurate as possible in describing a walk, they should not be viewed as a definitive route guide. They are intended to help you get out and explore the countryside. However, you are responsible for your own safety when out walking and are advised to carry a map and compass (and know how to use them).
Parking Details
The walks include details of where to park. Some locations are public car parks, others parking areas within local communities or public house car parks. You should always park responsibly, not blocking gates or driveways or causing an obstruction. If using a church or village hall car park ensure there is no service or function planned. When using pub car parks always check before if this acceptable and pop in for a drink and say thank you.
Refreshments
The walks contain details of pubs, shops and cafes you might encounter along the way. This is intended as a guide to what is available; it is not a personal recommendation about the establishment.
If on a route I have missed an establishment it is not deliberate. So if you own or know of somewhere on or very close to the walk which serves refreshments please contact me and I will include details.
Walk Grade
Each walk has a grade. This is a subjective view taken by me and others may grade it differently. When considering a walk you can see on the Outdoor Active site a profile of the walk with ascent and descent details. You should make your own assessment based on your general health and fitness if the walk is suitable for you.
Navigation
The directions for walks are only intended as a rough guide, if you are venturing out on a walk I strongly recommend that you carry the appropriate Ordnance Survey map and compass.
Some of the walks are on exposed hills and you should ensure that you are fully equipped before embarking on them.
If you want to learn navigation skills, or brush up on your techniques, I can recommend the courses run by Nigel Parrish at New Forest Navigation. Through Nigelâs expert tuition I have attained the NNAS Gold Navigation Award.
