About Fred the Walking Moonraker

Fred, also known as the Walking Moonraker, has a passion for walking and being out in the countryside.  Having been born in the small Wiltshire village where he still lives he is a “Moonraker”, a term used for natives of the County.

For a number of years Fred has maintained this site to provide details of Self Guided Walks, but it will now be expanding to cover Guided Walks, initially these will be around the Salisbury area of south Wiltshire and on the Cranborne Chase.  But over time the walking area will expand.

The walks will vary in length from around 3 miles to over 25 miles.  So there will be walks suitable for everyone.

Fred is a qualified Mountain Training Association Lowland Leader with an Outdoor First Aid certificate and has appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance to lead lowland walks.  He has also achieved the National Navigation Award Scheme Gold Standard of navigation.

During his guided walks Fred will share local historical information, there will be an opportunity to talk about the natural environment.  We may also talk about equipment, the issues facing walkers in the countryside and features on the map.

As well as group guided walks Fred is happy to discuss with you bespoke walks for individuals and small groups who want to tackle a walk, but do not feel confident walking on their own and want someone to guide them.  Walks can vary in length to suit the requirements of the individual or group.
